Former Officer Charged In Fatal Route 6 Crash

CORTLANDT, N.Y. -- A former Carmel police officer and town councilman has been charged in the death of a Somers teaching assistant during a car crash Nov. 14, according to lohud.com.

Somers Central School District officials were working Sunday to contact parents at Primrose Elementary School to let them know about the death of well-known teaching assistant Fran Ghelarducci in a Mahopac car crash.

According to state police, Richard O'Keefe, 57, of Mahopac, faces felony second-degree vehicular manslaughter in the three-car accident on Route 6 that killed Fran Ghelarducc, reported lohud.com.

Ghelarducci, 54, was a Mahopac resident and worked at Primrose Elementary School, said lohud.com.

Three other people involved in the accident were taken to Westchester Medical Center with non life-threatening injuries, police said, added lohud.com.

O'Keefe appeared in Carmel Town Court on Nov. 15 and will appear again on Dec. 1, said lohud.com.
