BRIARCLIFF MANOR, N.Y. The sun was shining Wednesday afternoon over Briarcliff Manor and Ossining as road crews worked overtime to repair the damage done from Tuesday nights storm.
More than 2,000 residents in Ossining and Briarcliff Manor lost power Tuesday evening while police and road crews scrambled to clear roads after rain and high winds ripped through the area. About 150 residents lost power in Briarcliff Manor with 13 still out Wednesday, according to Con Edison. In the Village of Ossining, 1,968 residents were without power at some point Tuesday and Con Edison officials said about 200 still were in the dark Wednesday afternoon. About 190 residents in the Town of Ossining also were without power Wednesday, according to Con Edison.
Con Edison Spokesman Allan Drury said Wednesday residents should expect to have all power restored before Thursday.
Were expecting all of the areas of Ossining and Briarcliff Manor to be restored by 11 p.m. Wednesday, Drury said Wednesday afternoon. We've got customers restored efficiently and safely. We realize it's frustrating to be without power and that's why we work as hard as we can to get them restored when storms like this hit.
A knocked out power to dozens of residents along Dalmany Road in Briarcliff Manor Tuesday night. The road remained closed Wednesday afternoon.
Route 9A closed intermittently Wednesday afternoon after a tree limb reportedly snapped and downed a major power line in the area. Police in Ossining and Briarcliff Manor said Wednesday there were no major injuries or accidents reported during the storms.
Route 9A between Route 134 and the Route9/9A split did reopen (Tuesday), but sections of Route 9A in that area (were) closed at times (Wednesday) afternoon to allow Con Edison to make repairs to power lines that were damaged in the storm, said Kieran O'Leary, Westchester County Police spokesperson. The road is reopened to traffic. Con Edison crews finished in that area.
Customers in the area are asked to contact Con Edison to report downed power lines, outages or service restoration status using coned.com or 1-800-752-6633.
Depending on the severity of storm damage, crews will give priority to restoring service lines that will provide power to the most customers as quickly as possible, then move on to restore smaller groups and individual customers who are without power, Con Edison said in a press release.
Con Edison officials offered several safety tips for residents during the storm like staying away from downed electrical wires, disconnecting all appliances in the case of a power outage until service is restored and checking weather updates regularly.
