Westchester Native Charles 'Chuck' Gulden, 55, Financier

Charles "Chuck" Frederick Gulden of New Canaan, Conn., died unexpectedly on June 21. He was 55.

Gulden was born Nov. 22, 1961, in New York City and raised in Rye. He was a graduate of The Hotchkiss School and Denison University, where he was a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity as well as president of the Interfraternity Council.

He had a distinguished career in the money management industry. He was an early employee at Templeton (now Franklin Templeton Group). After that, he served as a founder and held leadership roles at Hansberger Global Investors, TIG Advisors, and Boomerang Capital. 

Gulden was an avid golfer as well as a devoted friend and a tireless volunteer. He served as a member of the Board of Trustees of The Hotchkiss School and President of The Hotchkiss Fund. He was an elder and active volunteer at the First Presbyterian Church of New Canaan and served on the board of Wee Burn Country Club in Darien.

Gulden is survived by his wife of 30 years, Jennifer Wentzel Gulden, and their daughters, Whitney Gaynor and Abigail Perry. He is also survived by his mother; Katherine Ann (known as K.A.)  of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.; his mother-in-law, Barbara Wentzel of New Canaan; brothers-in-law Jeffrey Wentzel (Rachelle) of Newtown and Steve Wentzel of Portland; and his sister-in-law, M.E. Wentzel O’Connor (Chris) of New Canaan; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his father, Charlie, and his father-in-law Alan Wentzel. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org or the New Canaan First Presbyterian Church.

A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 178 Oenoke Ridge, New Canaan, at 11 a.m.Saturday June 24.
