Dr. Robert David Small, 63, Of Briarcliff Manor

BRIARCLIFF, N.Y. – Dr. Robert David Small, 63, of Briarcliff Manor, died Tuesday, July 14 after a biking accident.

Small was born June 3, 1952, to the late Dr. Alan and Muriel Small of Easton, Connecticut. He graduated from Tufts University and New York Medical College, followed by an orthopedic residency at the Hospital for Joint Diseases, where he served as chief resident and an orthopedic fellowship at the Hospital for Special Surgery in Manhattan. He was an orthopedic surgeon at White Plains Hospital for over 30 years and served as chief of the Orthopedic Institute and president of the Medical and Dental staff.

He will be remembered for his immense love of and pride in his family, joy in his work helping others, kind heart, wry sense of humor, excellence in cooking, gardening and photography, and vast love of life.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Dr. Catherine Butkus Small, whom he met at New York Medical College; his children, Dr. Jennifer Small-Saunders (David); Dr. Alyson Small Helmandollar (Kenneth); and William Robert Small, a medical student at NYU; a brother and sister-in-law of Easton, Connecticut; and a sister and brother-in-law of Salt Lake City.

A private funeral was held Saturday, July 18. A memorial gathering will be held Thursday, July 30 from 5-9 p.m. at the Women's Club, 305 Ridgeway, White Plains, New York.
