BRIARCLIFF, MANOR, N.Y. -- Dr. G. Richard Parrino, of Briarcliff Manor, died on June 10.
Parrino was born in Brooklyn to Peter and Angelina Parrino. He was raised in Brooklyn and graduated from Most Holy Trinity High School in Brooklyn. Richard earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Dayton in Ohio then completed his medical degree from the University of Rome School of Medicine in Rome, Italy.
Following his medical training, he joined Queens Hospital Center, and was appointed Chief Medical Resident. After completing his Fellowship in Rheumatology with Dr. John Calabro, Dr. Parrino opened his medical practice at 200 South Broadway in Tarrytown.
He married Sandra Swift of Guilford, Conn. After his wife, his passion was taking care of his patients. Dr. Parrino was the Director of the Phelps Infusion Center since 2004, treating countless patients with cutting edge medical treatments that transformed their lives by putting their disease into remission.
Dr. Parrino is known to his colleagues, residents, nurses, and patients as a brilliant, compassionate, and caring physician. He was affiliated with Phelps Memorial Hospital for over 40 years. Survivors include his wife Sandy; three children, Paul Parrino of Ossining; Christopher (Joy) Parrino of San Diego and Alexander Parrino (Dawn) of Riverdale; three grandchildren; one brother, Thomas (Marie) Parrino of Danbury; one brother-in-law, Dr. Jonathan Swift of Madison Conn.; one sister-in-law, Dr. Adrienne Smaller of Madison, Conn.; and five nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. A Service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 13 at Scarborough Presbyterian Church at 655 Scarborough Rd, Briarcliff Manor, NY 10510. Private family interment will take place at a later time.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Arthritis Foundation.
