Community Mourns Contractor Who Jumped To Death From Bear Mountain Bridge

Michael Ross Hirsch, a well-known New City contractor, died Tuesday, July 11, after jumping from the Bear Mountain Bridge. He was 67.

He was born on April 24, 1950, to Audrey and Raymond Hirsch and graduated from Teaneck High School and pursued an education in philosophy at Hamilton College.

Hirsch was always a free spirit and chose to spend his young adult years exploring Europe and Israel. He then served in the Israel Army for a few years before returning to the U.S. 

He founded MZM Corp. in 1992 and accumulated 35 years of experience in the construction industry. He was a crackerjack estimator and former arbitrator. 

Hirsch was passionate about everything he did, and he especially loved being a husband and father. 

He is survived by his wife Stephanie, and his three sons, Zachary, Mark and Jason. He is also survived by his sister, Lissa. Hirsch will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 18 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., at Michael J. Higgins Funeral Home in New City. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Francis of Assisi in West Nyack, followed by burial at Gethsemane Cemetery, Rockland Lake in Congers.
