Bernice Spreckman, Longtime Westchester Legislator, Dies At 82

Bernice Spreckman, a Westchester Legislator who served the county's 14th District for more than 20 years before retiring in 2016, died on Thursday. She was 82.

The Republican had won re-election with 56 percent of the vote in 2013, running on a platform of providing and protecting essential services, not increasing the tax levy, preserving the fund balance and facilitating economic growth.

The 14th District is made of up approximately 55,000 in parts of Yonkers and Mount Vernon.

Spreckman's husband, Harry, died in 2015.

Bernice Spreckman had served as a Yonkers city councilwoman prior to being elected to the County Legislature.
