Woman Gets 'Shock Probation' In Crash That Killed Ossining Candidate

OSSINING, N.Y. -- A 39-year-old Nanuet woman pleaded guilty Friday, May 2, to vehicular manslaughter in connection with  the crash that killed Briarcliff Manor's John Mangialardi while he was putting up campaign signs in Ossining, according to a LoHud,com report.

Michelle Sergio faces "shock probation," which consists of six months in jail followed by four and a half years of probation, the Westchester County District's Attorney's Office said in the LoHud report.

Mangialardi was reportedly crossing Route 9A from the northeast corner of the intersection on Sept. 3 when he was struck by a Nissan Altima that was traveling northbound on Route 9A, according to to previous reports from Daily Voice. Sergio failed a field sobriety test at the time of the crash and later was charged of driving while intoxicated and second-degree vehicular manslaughter.

She will be sentenced Aug. 11, according to the LoHud report.
