OSSINING, N.Y. – Earth Day, movies, book sales, an antique fair and firefighter demonstrations highlight the weekend events in Ossining and Briarcliff Manor.

Friday, April 20

The Ossining Public Library’s “Get Your GED” Program : 10 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Tutors are set to be available for free every Friday in the teen room. For more information, residents are asked to contact Robin Osborne at the Westchester Library System at (914) 231-3237 or rosborne@wlsmail.org .

Tech Workshop at the Library : 1:30 p.m. – 3 p.m. The Briarcliff Manor Public Library presents Working With Word Intermediate. Learn additional Word features including creating tables, adding images, headers and footers and more. Classes are 90 minutes. Registration is required, please call or email Shelley Glick. Computer Help at the Ossining Public Library : 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Free drop-in help with computers. Residents can learn how to navigate web pages and create documents in Microsoft programs. For more information, residents are asked to contact Cheryl at 941-2416 ext. 315.

Coffee Table Book Sale : 1 p.m. – 5 p.m. The Friends of the Library are sponsoring a coffee table book sale in the Footnote Cafe area of the Ossining Public Library. All proceeds support the library.

Friday Night at the Movies "Moneyball" : 7 p.m. – 12 a.m. Just in time for baseball season, come to the Briarcliff Manor Public Library to watch this newly released DVD movie on the big screen. Light refreshments will be served. Movie synopsis: The Oakland A’s general manager defies conventional wisdom and outsmarts his competition when forced to reinvent his team with bargain players. Saturday, April 21

Earth Day in Ossining : 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. More than 35 vendors are lined up starting at 11 a.m. at Louis Engel Waterfront Park to show residents everything from creating a compost pile to energy savings steps in the home. The day’s events, organized by the Green Ossining Committee , also include children’s activities, several music acts and the continuation of Stash The Trash and Free-A-Tree programs.

Story time and Crafts : 11 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Story time for 2 to 6-year-olds with caregivers at the Briarcliff Manor Public Library. Registration is requested.

Antiques Appraisal Fare at Scarborough Presbyterian Church: 9:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Hudson Chorale will be hosting an antiques appraisal fair on at the Scarborough Presbyterian Church Parish Hall, 655 Scarborough Road/Route 9, Scarborough, N.Y. Highly experienced, professional appraisers will be on hand to examine your fine jewelry, watches, porcelain, art, furniture and other antiques and provide a verbal appraisal of the value. Fees are $25 for the first item and $5 for each additional item up to a maximum of 3 pieces.

Briarcliff Manor Volunteer Fire Department Open House: 12 p.m. – 4 p.m. Throughout the day, the Briarcliff Manor Fire Department will conduct tours of the station and firefighter apparatus, allow visitors to try on firefighter gear, and provide activities and stations throughout the firehouse for visitors. The fire department will discuss the requirements to be a volunteer, as well as conduct demonstrations, answer questions, and let visitors know how to get involved in the fire department. Open house takes place at fire department headquarters at 1111 Pleasantville Road.

Free Community Concert : 7:30 p.m. - 10 p.m. A special concert of song and flutes. Suzanne Post, soprano, Northern Westchester Flutes and Hui-Mei Lin, pianist, will perform a selection of classical and contemporary music. The concert starts at 7:30 p.m. at Briarcliff Congregational Church, 30 South State Road. Admission is free and donations gratefully accepted. This concert is made possible through the generosity of the Frances and Robert Heim Memorial Music Fund. Refreshments will be served.

The Ossining Public Library’s Photography Class: 1 p.m. – 3 p.m. Residents can learn various photography techniques as a part of this weekly class. To register prior to the class, residents are asked to contact Director Jim Farrell at 941-2416 ext. 333.

Medical Presentation at the Library: 1 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. Do you or someone you know have an enlarged prostate?  Then this is the presentation you won't want to miss. Presentation by Dr. Arno Housman on GreenLight Laser Therapy. All are welcome to attend this informational presentation.

Sunday, April 22

“Return of the Jedi” at the Library : 2 p.m. – 5 p.m. The Ossining Public Library presents the Star Wars film screening of “Return of the Jedi.” All are welcome to attend. This is the final film in this series.
