Tripodi Fundraises for Ossining Supervisor Run

BRIARCLIFF MANOR, N.Y. -- An underused former police headquarters, overpaid consultants and closed meetings were some of the issues town Councilman Peter Tripodi addressed Wednesday night at a fundraiser to support his candidacy for town supervisor.

"How many of you own a home? Would you let that home sit empty and then go rent property somewhere else?" Tripodi asked a room full of supporters at a fundraiser dinner at The Briar's Restaurant in Briarcliff.

The Republican councilman compared that situation to what is happening with the town's former police headquarters on North State Road.

"We pay $320,000 per year in bond payments for the building and it sits vacant with minimal use by the county," he said.

Steve Dewey, the chairman of the Town of Ossining's Republican committee said Tripodi, who is 25 years old, often leaves other politicians with their mouths open by asking questions that no one else asks.

"Consultants for the Town of Ossining got paid $238,000 in 2009. I'm the only one on the board who has a problem with this. They're grossly overpaid," Tripodi told his supporters.

Tripodi was also the only town council member to complain about meetings addressing the consolidation of municipal services that were closed to the public.

"Inter-municipal agreement meetings during my tenure (as town supervisor) are going to be public," he said.

Tripodi is running against village Trustee Susanne Donnelly (D) for the Ossining town supervisor position. Catherine Borgia (D), the current town supervisor, is running against Susan Konig (R-Croton) for county legislator.

Konig lost a race against County Legislator Bill Burton (D-Ossining) by a mere 12 votes in 2009. Burton has announced that he does not plan on running for office this year.

"Peter's a star for the Republican party," said Republican county legislator Jim Maisano, who is running for his seat unopposed this year. "He is so honest, he's like a boy scout. He's honest, he listens. We can't wait for you to become supervisor of Ossining."

Municipal elections will be held November 8th this year.
