Student Joins Briarcliff Board of Education

BRIARCLIFF MANOR, N.Y. – The student co-president of Briarcliff High School, John Alecci, has recently joined the Briarcliff Board of Education as a student representative.

"They were trying to find someone to do it, and I felt like it made sense for me. I'm already president of the school, so I already had first dibs," Alecci said during a Board of Education meeting on Monday night.

Three students, Alecci, Max Alley, the other co-president of Briarcliff High School, and senior Michael Fisher expressed interest in being on the Board of Education, Alecci said. Students at a student government meeting voted for which of the three students they wanted to serve on the board, and Alecci won.

"John will be telling us the perspective of some of our students," schools Superintendent Neal Miller said on Monday night after welcoming Alecci to the board.

Miller added that Alecci should feel free to do his other school activities first if he has a conflict with a board meeting.

Aside from serving on student government, Alecci is also a leader in the music arts. He directs and arranges songs for a student-run, all-boys acapella group called the Cliffnotes, he is president of the school chorus and he has played leading roles in the musicals Grease, Pajama Game and A Midsummer Night's Dream. Alecci sings, dances and plays the drums, piano and ukulele.
