The snow closed schools and many government buildings. Up to 7 inches of snow was reported in Cold Spring. Montrose received 6 inches of snow.
In Putnam, County Executive MaryEllen Odell announce that Putnam County Offices were closed today, including its public transit system and Office for Senior Resources.
"Highway and emergency crews have been out making sure roads are in the safest conditions with the current snow storm," Odell said. "If you must travel today, give yourself enough time and drive carefully."
Odell said she expected services to return to normal Tuesday.
Croton-on-Hudson cancelled garbage pickup Monday and Tuesday. The Village of Ossining declared a snow emergency. Town of Ossining offices were open.
A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 6 p.m. Monday.
Snow will mix with freezing rain before 3 p.m. on Monday before changing over freezing rain and sleet in the afternoon. Daytime ice accumulations could reach up to half an inch. There could also be an additional 3-7 inches of snow as well.
Precipitation will exit the area in the evening and leave bitter cold in its wake, with lows around 7 degrees and wind chills expected to be well below zero.
