BRIARCLIFF MANOR, N.Y. A sink hole that developed over the weekend on Scarborough Road has been fixed, Briarcliff police said.
"A sink hole is when dirt from underneath the road washes away and the road sinks," said Officer Michael Zazzini.
Sink holes are caused by the natural process of erosion. They may be enlarged by running water or they can also form in high and dry locations.
The sink hole on Scarborough Road was fixed by Sunday morning without having to close the road, Zazzini said.
Rain is expected to continue today and tomorrow with the sun coming out again Wednesday.
