Updated at 3 p.m. Tuesday.

An estimated 4,780 customers in the Village of Ossining reman without power Tuesday afternoon. Another 2,073 in Briarcliff Manor and 683 in the Town of Ossining were also without power Tuesday afternoon. Authorities said Con Edison trucks were working on clearing downed wires but had no timetable for when power would be restored in the area.

OSSINING, N.Y. – Hurricane Sandy wiped out power to roughly half of all Village of Ossining and Briarcliff Manor customers as of Tuesday morning, according to Con Edison reports.

An estimated 4,780 out of 8,980 customers in the Village of Ossining were without power at 5 a.m. Tuesday. In Briarcliff Manor, 1,972 out of 2,964 customers were without power. Roughly 500 customers lost power in the Town of Ossining, according to Con Edison reports.

Authorities said the height of the storm was expected to hit the area late Monday, but that intermittent power outages could be expected all day Monday and Tuesday.

Con Edison officials could not determine Tuesday morning when a majority of the outages would be repaired.

More than 650,000 customers in New York City and Westchester County lost power due to Hurricane Sandy, Con Edison representatives said early Tuesday.

“This is the largest storm-related outage in our history,” said Con Edison Senior Vice President for Electric Operations John Miksad in a press release. The company noted that the previous record was “more than 200,000 customers affected by Hurricane Irene in 2011,” according to the release.

Miksad noted that crews would need to assess damage prior making to repairs, adding that “low-lying areas of New York City and Westchester County remained under water,” according to the release.

Officials noted that more than 180 roads closed throughout Westchester County.
