Ron Howard to Join Film Center Board of Directors

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – Ron Howard, the Academy Award-winning director, has recently been elected to the Board of Directors at the Jacob Burns Film Center in Pleasantville.

The Jacob Burns Film Center's Board of Directors is generally responsible for expanding the center's different events and also the education program which teaches the many different aspects of filmmaking.

"Ron has been a member of the Film Center since the very beginning. He was the recipient of our first Vision Award in 2005, has delighted our audiences through Q&As following screenings of his films, and has been an important voice in our educational mission," said founder and executive director of the JBFC Steve Apkon in a statement.

The announcement comes as the Burns Center celebrates its tenth anniversary.

Howard said in a statement that he is looking forward to his opportunities as a member of the Board.

"Having been involved with the Center for so many years, I am excited and honored to join the Board," said Howard. "I remember years ago sitting in a room discussing with Steve and several faculty members the relevance of [the film center's] approach to education given the world we live in today. I believe in the guiding principles behind both their education and film programs and I want to help explore new partnerships that broaden their reach,"

Howard will also represent a co-chair on the board that will put together the Center's tribute to Steven Spielberg, which will take place on September 17.

The director is best known for his films, "A Beautiful Mind", "Apollo 13", "Cinderella Man", T"he Da Vinci Code", and many others.

The Jacob Burns Film Center currently features over 75,000 students throughout the region in their film education programs.
