'Project Ezra' Food Drive Helps Elderly, Homebound In Briarcliff

BRIARCLIFF MANOR, N.Y. — Congregation Sons Of Israel (CSI) Briarcliff completed its annual Project Ezra food drive by delivering food to the main Ezra offices in Manhattan on Sunday.

The aim with the drive is to make sure elderly residents of Manhattan's Lower East Side have Kosher food for Passover.

During Passover, Jews avoid eating what's called 'chametz,' which is any food with barley, wheat, rye, oats, and spelt (a kind of wheat).

CSI Briarcliff collected food from local synagogues as part of the drive, which will see Project Ezra (Hebrew for 'help') deliver a carton of food to each resident who needs it.

"This is part of our Social Action Committee," CSI Briarcliff chairperson Judy Boehr said. "We bring a warm, personal contact to needy people who may have little contact with the outside world."

The drive may be over, but donations are still welcome.
