Prepare to Rock, Pleasantville

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – This Saturday, both national and local musicians will be coming to Pleasantville for a day filled with music, food and an overall good time.

July 9 marks the 7th annual Pleasantville Music Festival sponsored the village of Pleasantville, WXPK 107.1 the PEAK, and the Westchester Medical Center. Some of the 20 artists in this year's event include Marc Cohn, Sonny Landreth and Augustana.

Sol Skolnick, co-executive director for the festival, anticipates a large crowd that will be brought together to see many different musicians.

"Since an emphasis is focused on local musicians in addition to the national acts that we get, the feeling is that this is a strong event that helps reinforce the culture of the community," Skolnick said.

Skolnick and fellow co-executive director Rich Sarfaty began putting together the festival in December by auditioning local bands and acquiring vendors. The vendors that will be on-site at the festival include over 50 local businesses that will offer food, services and information on charitable opportunities.

Skolnick believes that these vendors, along with the musicians add to the growing popularity of the annual festival that enters its seventh year.

"A little community in the middle of Westchester will have something for the people that live here or the people that enjoy [the festival]," Skolnick said. "As well as it attracts more and more people throughout the area for a really wonderful day,"

This year, the festival is headlined by musician Marc Cohn and his popular hit singles, "Walking in Memphis" and "Silver Thunderbird".  The various artists will perform on three different stages simultaneously throughout the day.

The gates to the festival at Parkway Field off Marble Avenue will open at noon and the music will go on until about 8:30 p.m. Tickets for all adults are $40. Senior citizen/student tickets are $15 and any child 11 years old or younger that is accompanied by an adult ticket holder is free.

There is no on-site parking for the event, but free parking will be provided at Pace University as well as a round-trip shuttle service.
