Pre-Construction Work to Begin on Taconic

Traffic slowdowns are expected this week as state transportation officials plan intermittent lane closures on the Taconic State Parkway beginning Monday to prepare the road for the AMVETS Bridge reconstruction project.

The New York State DOT is advising motorists that intermittent lane closures can occur any time between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on the southbound Taconic State Parkway just north of Route 134 to Pines Bridge Road from Monday through Friday.

The lane closures are to prepare the roadway for the bridge project that begins Monday March 26 and is expected to last at least nine months.

During that time, northbound traffic will be re-routed onto the southbound span of the Taconic and the roadway will go from three lanes to two lanes.

Motorists are urged to use caution when traveling through the work area this week and to pay particular attenion to all traffic control devices, work zone signs, and flaggers.

The State DOT reminds drivers that fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone.If you would like to access real-time traffic information, call 511 or visit www.511NY.org.
