BRIARCLIFF MANOR, N.Y. Briarcliff Manor Board of Trustees candidates Mark Pohar and Robert Murray received 97 votes and 93 votes respectively to be the next two trustees.
Village Clerk Christine Dennett said Tuesday night that there were 86 voters Tuesday and 13 absentee ballots cast in this year's election. Pohar and Murray ran unopposed after receiving nominations from the Peoples Caucus of Briarcliff Manor in January. Trustees Robert Mayer and Anthony Capasso did not seek re-election this year. Dennett said there were no contested issues in Briarcliff Manor this year.
Pohar, a 52-year-old nursing home administrator, is new to the political arena but has lived in Briarcliff Manor for 17 years. He has been the president of the New York Chapter of the National Association of Directors of Nursing Administration.
Pohar previously said he had some ideas of what he would want to accomplish as a Briarcliff trustee.
If elected it is my objective to continue the momentum of the board in accomplishing the goals set, Pohar said in February. I would also like to work to allow our residents' taxes to directly benefit and service our residents.
Murray is a five-year veteran of the Briarcliff Manor Planning Board and is also a partner at Baker Botts LLP. Hes lived in Briarcliff Manor for the past 30 years.
Finding a way to break free from the Town of Ossining is a priority, as Briarcliff is taxed for services it doesn't use, Murray said. Increasing our business base has been a major issue for many years, and our paucity of practice fields also needs to be addressed.
