Outdoor Activities Heat up Around Briarcliff

With weather in the low-80s predicted, this weekend promises to be a great time for outdoor activities around Briarcliff.

The 35th annual Ossining Village Fair will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in downtown Ossining, with four stages of live entertainment, 154 vendors, plenty of food and children's activities.

The Ossining farmers market will be held as usual Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the corner of Main and Spring Streets.

There will be a "Holy Ossining!" religious tour starting at 12 p.m. Saturday at the Ossining Bank for Savings building at the corner of Main Street and Route 9. The tour will showcase the diversity of faith in Ossining. It will visit the First Baptist church, the First Presbyterian church, the Ossining Methodist church and the Trinity Episcopal church.

For those craving fun in the water, the Louis Engel Waterfront Park’s sprinkler park for children should be turned on and the Croton Point Park beach is open to the public with admission at $8 for the general public and $4 for those with a Westchester County Park Pass.

Camping facilities including cabins, tent sites and a Recreational Vehicle park are also available at Croton Point Park.

If you are passionate about biking, the Bronx River Parkway from the County Center in White Plains to Scarsdale Road in Yonkers will be closed to vehicles Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. so bikers, walkers, joggers and skaters can enjoy the road.

There will also be a mountain bike festival called the Fat Tire Festival at the Blue Mountain Reservation in Peekskill Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Organized group rides for all ability levels led by experienced local guides will be leaving throughout the day to explore trails. For those who want to compete, there will be skills competitions including a wheelie contest, fast and slow races and a "skinny skills" contest on a narrow, raised wooden obstacle course. Admission and parking for the event are free.
