Sanchez stated in a letter to parents and members of the community that Azabache, who pled guilty to raping a 16-year-old student earlier in the month had not been on the school's payroll since early September.

"It is disturbing and unfortunate that this incident ever occurred, but now that it has been legally resolved and Mr. Azabache is officially no longer an employee of the district," Sanchez said in the letter. "We can move forward with a continued focus on curriculum and instruction."
