Ossining SummerFest Set For Friday Night

OSSINING, N.Y. – The second annual SummerFest with live entertainment, children's rides and games and food vendors is set for this Friday at Ossining's Market Square.

"The event has so much to offer for all ages, and it truly does involve all aspects of the community," said event coordinator Omar Herrera, the owner of OJH Productions, an Ossining-based company that offers lighting, sound, event planning, DJ services and decoration designing.

Herrera said he is excited for the event, but a little worried about the heat since Friday is predicted to be one of the hottest days of the summer with temperatures reaching 98 degrees.

"Please dress comfortably and stay hydrated," Herrera said.

Last year was the first year that Herrera put on a public event for Ossining. He said he was motivated to organize a festival for Ossining because "Ossining has so much talent and is so diverse."

Aside from up-and-coming local bands and DJs, this year's SummerFest will also feature drama segments put on by local actors, a Zumba class, and a light show to conclude festivities at 10 p.m.

"SummerFest attracts hundreds of festival goers and families... It brings community spirit, and of course business to the surrounding area," Herrera said.

The festival is scheduled to take place from 4:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. at Market Square at the corner of Main and Spring Streets.

Aside from SummerFest, there will also be a waterfront concert on Friday night featuring the funk/pop band JigSaww at the Louis Engel Waterfront Park stage. The concert starts at 7:30 p.m.

In addition, St. Augustine's Church will be hosting its six-day Italian festival until Sunday with rides, games, Italian food, a DJ and a White Elephant sale. The festival is open from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. at 381 North Highland Ave.
