Ossining School Bus Accident Sends 3 to Hospital

OSSINING, N.Y. – Three students from Anne M. Dorner Middle School sustained minor injuries and were taken to the hospital as a precaution Wednesday afternoon when their school bus collided with an SUV that was backing out of a driveway in the Fox Hill condominium development.

The students suffered minor injuries to their legs and ankles and were taken to Phelps Memorial Hospital in Sleepy Hollow for evaluation, said Ray Sanchez, Deputy Superintendent for the Ossining Union Free School District, who rushed to the scene of the accident along with other school district officials.

"We're very grateful that there were no serious injuries and also for the parents' patience in addressing this issue," Sanchez said.

The accident occurred about 3:10 p.m. at Horseshoe Circle and Saddle Trail, and the students were taken to hospital "out of an abundance of caution," said Kieran O'Leary, spokesman for the Westchester County police. It was unclear if either driver was given a citation, and the names of the drivers and the students were not available at press time.

The Westchester County police, the Ossining Volunteer Ambulance Corp and the Briarcliff Manor Fire Department all responded to the call.
