Ossining Derailment Victim Is Closer To Returning Home

OSSINING, N.Y. – A Westchester man paralyzed in the Metro-North derailment in the Bronx in December 2013 will soon return home after Village of Ossining architectural officials agreed to move forward with a construction project that would upgrade the man’s home to meet his needs, News 12 Westchester reports.

Sam Rivera, a former MTA railroad engineer, was one of 70 people injured in the Dec. 1 derailment that killed four people and confined Rivera to a wheelchair with limited mobility in his arms.

His home now must be wheelchair accessible and upgraded to accommodate him, News 12 reports.

The Village of Ossining Board of Architectural Review voted to move forward with a construction project and will prepare plans that it will present to the local building department. Construction can begin on the project that will be funded by Metro-North after a permit is issued, according to News 12.
