Medical Center Ranks High for Cardiac Surgery

MOUNT PLEASANT, N.Y. – Westchester Medical Center has been ranked as one of the top 100 best hospitals for cardiac surgery, according to a report released Friday by HealthGrades.

“We are pleased to have been recognized by HealthGrades as one of America's 100 Best Hospitals for Cardiac Surgery," Michael D. Israel, president and CEO of Westchester Medical Center, said in a press release.  "Westchester Medical Center has long been known for its advanced inpatient cardiac services, from the latest advances in interventional cardiology to implantable ventricular assist devices and heart transplants.”

Westchester Medical Center also received a five-star rating from HealthGrades in categories such as overall cardiac surgery, coronary bypass surgery, valve surgery and coronary interventional procedures.

According to HealthGrades, patients that receive five-star rated treatment compared to a one-star treatment have a 73 percent lower rate of mortality and a 63 percent lower rate of complications.

"Patients today have a wide array options when it comes to choosing a healthcare provider," said Kerry Hicks, HealthGrades chief executive officer, in a press release. "We commend Westchester Medical Center for its superior quality and support of consumerism and transparency in the New York area."

Westchester Medical Center serves an average of more than 120,000 patients each year from the greater Hudson Valley and beyond.
