Entergy’s nuclear power plant is in the village of Buchanan, in the town of Cortlandt.
Emergency officials are emphasizing that this is only a test. It will be followed by a message from the Emergency Alert System (EAS) on radio and television stations.
If there were a real emergency, the same radio and television stations would broadcast important information and instructions.
In this case, the sirens are not a sign to evacuate and no action by the public is required, officials said.
