Halloween Fun for Weekend Around Briarcliff

OSSINING, N.Y. – There are a lot of Halloween activities this weekend, including a Ragamuffin Parade, a "Howloween" dog dress-up event, a Halloween movie night and a Harvest Festival with a costume contest. Here are the details:

Friday

Halloween Movie at Briarcliff Manor Public Library, 7 p.m.

All are welcome to watch Spiderwick Chronicles on the library's big screen. Bring your own treats to enjoy while watching the film. The movie may be too scary for children under eight. Free.

Youth Harvest Party, 6 p.m. – 8 p.m.

Calvary Baptist will host its annual Harvest Party at 4 St. Paul's Place, behind the Ossining post office/Hudson Pharmacy. Kids between five and 10 years old and parents are welcome to join the fun. Free food, snacks, games, crafts and prizes.

Ossining Cub Scout Pack 83's Second Chance Recruitment Night and Halloween Party, 7 p.m.

Recruitment night and Halloween party for boys grades 1 – 5 and their parents at Claremont School, 2 Claremont Rd. in Ossining.

Joan Osborne Benefit Performance, 8 p.m.

Joan Osborne will perform in a concert at the Ossining Library's Budarz theater to benefit the Ossining Library Foundation. Proceeds will be used to underwrite six free Sunday concerts in the Library Foundation's 2012 "Words & Music" performance series, as well as other initiatives.

Saturday

Briarcliff Ragamuffin Parade, 9:30 a.m.

Children of all ages and parents are invited to show off their Halloween costumes in a Ragamuffin Parade sponsored by the Briarcliff Recreation Department and the Briarcliff Manor Fire Department. Parents and children should report in costume at 9:30 a.m. to the parking lot of the International Union of Operating Engineers at 1360 Pleasantville Rd. The parade will proceed south along Pleasantville Road to the fire house, where there will be a comical performance by Ned Gelfars at 10 a.m. Refreshments will be served after the show, and all children will receive a Halloween treat bag. If it rains, the parade will be cancelled, but the comical show will still be held at 10 a.m. inside the fire house. Free.

Ossining Historical Society Museum's 80th Anniversary Celebration, 6 p.m.

A dinner and silent auction will be held at the Travelers Rest in Millwood. Tickets are $55.

Sunday

Harvest Festival, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

The festival, sponsored by the Greater Ossining Chamber of Commerce, will kick off at 10 a.m. with opening ceremonies on North State Road by Blue Lantern Road. At noon, there will be a costume contest, followed by a pet parade. There will also be music, kids' rides, food, vendors and demos. The county police will sponsor a Safe Child booth as well as install safety seats for attendees. Free.

Friends of the Cedar Lane Dog Park's Howloween, 2 p.m.

Dress up your dog and yourself and you can win a plastic trophy. Meet at the Cedar Lane Dog Park.
