Gala, Brunch for Weekend Around Briarcliff

OSSINING, N.Y. – A memorial service for former Ossining Mayor Thomas Cambariere, a retirement brunch for former County Legislator Bill Burton and a fund-raising gala to benefit students and adults helping Hurricane Katrina victims are planned for this weekend. Here are the details:

Friday

Fireside Winter Stories for Kids at Teatown, 3:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Drop by Teatown Lake Reservation's Carriage House at 1600 Spring Valley Road to listen to a winter-themed story while sitting around a warm fireplace. Visit with one of Teatown's Animal Ambassadors and go for a short walk outside. The program is targeted for children 4 to 7-years-old, accompanied by an adult. The cost is $5 per child and adults are free.

Saturday

Memorial Service for Former Ossining Mayor Thomas Cambariere, 11 a.m. – 12 p.m.

"Mayor Tom" died on Dec. 8 at the age of 69 after a long illness. He served as an Ossining village trustee from January of 1985 through December of 1996, and as the mayor of the village of Ossining from Jan. 1, 1997 until Dec. 31, 2002. He was the lone Democrat on the village board from 1985 through 1989. Cambariere and his business partner, Gregory Santone, ran Rocky's Deli in Millwood, and the former mayor was a member of the Elks Lodge, Moose Lodge, Rotary club and NAACP. He served as the chair of the Board for the Ossining Volunteer Ambulance Corp. All are welcome to attend a memorial service for Cambariere at St. Ann's Church at 25 Eastern Ave.

Savor the Flavor Gala Fund-Raising Dinner in Briarcliff, 6 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.

Come to an evening of food and music at the Briarcliff Congregational Church parish hall at the corner of Pleasantville and South State roads. The event will help support 25 local high school students and 14 adult volunteers who will be traveling to New Orleans during their week-long February break to help survivors of Hurricane Katrina rebuild their homes and their lives. The VooDudes band will be performing New Orleans soul, blues, boogie woogie and honky tonk, and there will be Cajun food, dessert, dancing, a silent auction and more. Tickets cost $45 for adults 21 and over, $25 for students and $15 for children up to 14-years-old. For more information, call Peter Clements at 646-773-7968.

Microsoft Word Computer Classes at Briarcliff Library, 10:30 a.m. – 12 p.m.

Sunday

Retirement Brunch for Former County Legislator William Burton, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.

Bill Burton served the 9th legislative district for six years. A brunch in honor of his retirement from the legislature is open to the public for $50 per person. The brunch will be held at the Atria senior living community at 321 North Highland Ave. in Ossining. For more information, call 914-953-8297.
