BRIARCLIFF MANOR, N.Y. Julia Anello's paintings featuring fruits and vegetables juxtaposed with backgrounds of complex wallpaper or art from another era, are on display at Images Art Gallery until Dec. 10.
"She started out loving painting nudes. She liked the roundness of the human form," Marie Alpert, the owner of Images Art Gallery, explained. "You can't always have a human model, but there are always fruits and vegetables that also have the lush, round form,"
Anello lives in Sleepy Hollow. She is best known for her watercolor fruit and vegetable paintings though she also paints with oil paints. So far, a dozen of Anello's paintings, priced at about $895 each, have been sold, Alpert said. The gallery owner puts on displays of Anello's work every few years.
Images Art Gallery, located at 1157 Pleasantville Rd., is open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
