Crews from the Tarrytown Fire Department were dispatched to a reported structure fire on Sheldon Avenue at approximately 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 1. After calling for aid from nearby departments, officials said that firefighters were able to swiftly and safely knock down the flames and extinguish the fire.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. Crews from Sleepy Hollow, Irvington, Ardsley, Nyack responded to the scene.

While crews were busy at Sheldon Avenue, a second report was called in for a reported oven fire on North Tappan Landing Road. Upon arrival, firefighters reported that there was no fire, and the call was “deemed as good intent.”

The Tarrytown Fire Department issued a thanks on Facebook to the local Police Department for assisting on scene, Westchester County Fire Control for assisting with the responses and to the Tarrytown Ladies Auxiliary for offering refreshments and water to the crews responding to the scene.

The structure fire was one of two in Westchester over the holidays, with crews also responding to a blaze in Mount Vernon.
