The two organizations co-sponsored a two-day dementia care training program so area nurses, aides and other caregivers properly can assist seniors struggling with the illness. During the daylong training at Graymoor in Garrison, participants received an overview of dementia, as well as insight into the various stages of dementia, including managing common behaviors and addressing family concerns, according to a press release.

“There are many facets to dementia, so we were pleased that our staff could partake in this exceptional program,” said Mary Zagajeski, president/CEO of Dominican Sisters Family Health Service in a press release. “During the training, our caregivers interacted in teams to discuss, solve problems, and create camaraderie in their joint endeavor to support each other and those they care for in the community.”

“We made the decision to provide this training collaboration for our respective nurses and aides in an effort to assist them in dealing with the ever-growing issue of Dementia,” said Sharon Niman, administrator with Family Home Health Care, in a press release. “The program included collaborating with families to provide information and to be a part of the planning and implementation of the care plan.”

Family Home Health Care is a subsidiary of Dominican Sisters Family Health Services. The community based, nonprofit licensed home care service agency provides compassionate, professional and holistic home health care, according to a press release.
