Con Ed Road Work Continues. What we call step 1 initial test pit work has basically ended. step 2 the full replacement of the main itself has begun and will accelerate from now on. We have authorized extended work hours during the day and overnight depending on their progress. As I reported, separate work running south on South State Road and north on Pleasantville Road to about the Post Office will be layered in. Overall, the plan is for Con Ed to concentrate on the intersection work by having them get in, get the work done, and get out of the way before Labor Day.

Repaving will not be immediate, excavated work will need to settle. No matter how well planned, problems will occur and we ask that you factor in the potential of delays or shifts in traffic patterns. We have told them to step-up and focus on better flagging of the traffic congested site, but we also ask you not to interfere or berate the work force. We will handle problem situations.

From Recreation and Parks: Pool Hours are now 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Gaga Ball Pit work starts this weekend as part of Liam Morrissy’s Eagle Scout project. It’s best to Google “Gaga Ball Pit” to understand what this is all about. Contact our Recreation Office at 941-6560 for last remaining slots in our specialty camp programs: Incrediflex Moviewmaking Camps and Engineering For Kids Camps, both at the Youth Center.

From the Library and Community Center: Tonight’s Friday night at the movies presents "The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel" at 7:30 p.m. Registration is recommended but all are welcome to attend. To register please email Shelley Glick at sglick@wlsmail.org or call the library at 941-7072. People attending may bring their own snacks. Due to a pick-up in the construction of our new Community Center, you may notice that many items in the library have been moved up to the second floor. Please ask for assistance in finding any of our materials. The New York State Education Department/New York State Library has announced that the Briarcliff Manor Public Library application for the 2014-2015 Public Library Construction Grant Program has been approved for the amount of $27,280. The funds will be used for electrical work, projection and sound equipment, and a digital signboard for the Library and Community Center. The Library is closed on Sundays, during the month of August.

From the Department of Public Works: No village hydrant flushing this coming week. The firm of Groundwater & Environmental Services will have their crews out at 1136 Pleasantville Road to inspect and cap the monitoring wells prior to abandonment on Monday and Tuesday, Aug. 17 and 18. There may be some congestion as this final stage of clean-up is completed.

Mayor and Board of Trustees: The next meeting of the M/BOT is scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 19: a W/S at 7 p.m. and BOT session at 8 p.m. in the Village Hall.

Updates of the Week: Interior work at our Community Center continues as the steel structure supporting the new second floor sets into place. Work is now focused to tie in the existing second floor of the library side to the new second floor of the Community Center. East and west facing dormers will be added to the Community Center to open up the ceiling and roof line all to provide additional space to the second story. Work at the Club Field Comfort Station has accelerated. Interior masonry work on separate bathroom facilities and storage areas for field equipment and supplies are taking shape. Preparation work on the Hydro-Pneumatic Pump Station is being timed to receive the new pump unit which will be assembled off-site for delivery and placement after Labor Day. In the meantime, the Club Field is under a regimen of weed, feed, and moisture controls for its return to the Fall sports schedule.
