Con Edison Road Work Alert: The initial phase of Con Ed gas main re-construction/replacement is scheduled to begin on Monday, July 20.

This phase is focused on Pleasantville, South State and School Roads. Work notices are to be distributed by Con Ed to affected customers. The anticipated completion date is Friday, Aug. 21. While no time is a good time, the area is oriented to more discrete zones to minimize impact. This is only one of several components in the area program to update and improve local gas mains.

Summer Camp: We are at week two and off to a good start to our 2015 summer camp program. With summer camp in full swing, pool hours adjust to 12:45 – 7:30 p.m. on weekdays through Aug. 9. Weekend hours remain 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. through Aug. 9. Please note that the pool schedule has some adjustments for the swim/diving team home events:

  • Thursday, July 23: Pool closes at 4:30 p.m.
  • Sunday, Aug. 2: Pool opens at noon and closes at 4:30 p.m.

The New Basketball Hoop at Law Park Tennis Court No. 4 has received a great response. This addition is for pool patrons only and open on weekend afternoons. Access is from the newly installed gate on the pool side area. We welcome its use but ask that you respect permit holding tennis players.

Briarcliff Manor Pine Forest & Wetlands Reclamation Project: Join us every Saturday at the Briarcliff Youth Center at 1:30 p.m. This is a grassroots community effort to "take back" the beautiful Pine Forest and wetland area from various invasive plant species located between the youth center and the law park field. Volunteer by bringing gloves, loppers, hand pruners, pole saws/pole pruners, rakes, weed-whackers and protective glasses, and let's all work together to make a difference.

Village Hydrant Flushing: The next phase of our extended 2015 water main and hydrant flushing program restarts on Monday, July 20. This phase runs until July 24 running from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Crews will flush individual hydrants in specific areas. The areas to be flushed are: North State Road, Schrade Road, Matthes Road, Hazelton Circle, Winterberry Lane, Deer Tree Lane, Olde Willow Way, and Chappaqua Road from Route 100 to Pleasantville Road. As a result of this work, residents can expect discolored water at any time but particularly from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Even if the water is discolored, testing has indicated that the water contains no harmful bacteria.

Mayor and Board of Trustees: The next Mayor and Board of Trustees meeting will be on Wednesday, Aug. 19, at 7 and 8 p.m., respectively. Question of the Week. Anything new about future plans to improve the Route 9A and North State Road intersection? As you may recall the Mayor and Board of Trustees have been pushing for many years to have the intersection improved. The Village of Briarcliff Manor, on its own and at its own expense, has commissioned studies, data collection and specific plans to improve the intersection. No funding has been approved. The Mayor’s July 15 letter outlines that the Village of Briarcliff Manor is prepared to pledge 25% of the estimated cost of these important improvements, some $158K of the $630K cost. It also calls on the state and county to join us and tackle this long standing problem by participating with their own dollar share. To see the letter to these officials click here

Updates: Work continues at the Club Field; footings were poured for the Club Comfort Station and the Hydro-Pneumatic Pump Station; Library and Community Center preparation work on the east side for a new full service electric generator and emergency and service stairway for the new community center’s second floor addition. Some 12 blue spruce trees have been planted in several locations as part of our tree replacement and expansion program.
