Cake Boss Baking Up Laughs at Tarrytown Music Hall

TARRYTOWN, N.Y. – Bjorn Olsson doesn't really watch Cake Boss on TLC, but he's learned there's a definite fan base ever since Buddy Valastro was booked for two Sunday shows at the Tarrytown Music Hall.

People keep coming up to Olsson and asking “Is the Cake Boss really going to be at the Music Hall?” These are “friends who I haven't talked to in years,” said Olsson, executive director of the music hall. “He's a popular guy.”

Valastro is a fourth-generation baker and the star of the TLC-based reality show Cake Boss. His parents founded a bakery in Hoboken, N.J., for which he continues to bake and make specialty cakes. Valastro's shows on Sunday will feature the baker demonstrating his techniques while telling stories about his TV show and his family. Valastro will also be answering audience questions. Olsson said the shows weren't sold out completely, but “it's filling out nicely.”

“People are showing up in droves,” Olsson said.

Olsson said the Music Hall didn't have to prepare a whole lot for a cooking demonstration as opposed to a music concert.

“A lot of these reality-type shows are going out on tour,” he said,. He added that the stars generally bring their own setup.

Screens will be set up to help audience viewers see what Valastro's baking. Olsson said people in the back seats would probably have the best view because of this.

“It looks like it's going to be a fun, family event,” Olsson said.
