Briarcliff Will Install Guardrail at Pump Station

TARRYTOWN, N.Y. – Tarrytown trustees and residents have both expressed concerns about a retainage basin near the new Briarcliff Pump Station on Neperan Road, fearing that a car could drive into the basin because there's no guardrail there.

Trustee Mary McGee brought up the issue once again during Wednesday's Board of Trustee work session.

“Did you ever find out from Briarcliff what they're doing?” she asked Village Administrator Michael Blau.

Blau said Village Engineer Michael McGarvey has put Briarcliff on notice about a need for the guardrail. McGarvey also said he had been emailing Briarcliff Village Manager Philip Zegarelli to tell the village they had to put up a guardrail.

“It looks like they're putting up a fence, which in my estimation isn't safe enough,” McGarvey said.

Zegarelli said the village is indeed going to put up a guardrail at the pump station. He said that although original plans approved by the Tarrytown Planning Board did not include one, Briarcliff agreed to put it in after Tarrytown asked them to do so.

“I've already signed off on it,” Zegarelli said.

Zegarelli couldn't say when it would be installed, but said it would be done shortly.

“It's just a matter of getting it done,” he said.
