On Monday, Phase I of the village’s hydrant flushing program began. During the four-day villagewide flushing program, multiple crews will be mobilized to flush hydrants on water mains throughout the village.
This will run from until Thursday. Hydrant flushing will start about 9 a.m. and continue till about 4 p.m.
As a result of this work, residents can expect discolored water at any time (but particularly) during the day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Please understand that you may wish to alter such activities such as your laundry routine, avoiding these time periods in particular. However, even if discolored, continuing laboratory testing has indicated that in the past the water has contained no harmful bacteria.
In Phase II of the village’s hydrant flushing program, the hydrants in individual neighborhoods will be flushed. Prior to performing this work, a notice will be placed on the village’s website.
From the Recreation and Parks Department, The 2015 pool season is now in full swing with weekday hours of 3-7 p.m. and weekend hours of 11 a.m.-7 p.m. until school closes. If you would like to purchase or renew your permits, see the Pool & Tennis permit information available on the village website at www.briarcliffmanor.org.
Permits may be purchased at the Recreation Office weekdays between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m.
Day Camp Registration is still open, but only on a space-available basis. Certain individual camp groups and weeks of attendance have already filled up, so please contact the Recreation Department to see what’s still available.
Residents can take advantage of several one-week camp offerings available throughout the summer, including PlayWell Teknologies Lego Camps, Engineering for Kids camps, IncrediFlix Moviemaking camps, U.S. Sports Institute Multi-Sports”camps and sport-specific camps and clinics in soccer, baseball and lacrosse offered at local sites in conjunction with local youth sport organizations.
Seek out the recreation brochure for further information and dates for these specialty programs.
From the Library and Community Center, School’s Out for Summer Party (all ages, rain or shine!) will be held Thursday from 3:30-5 p.m. Enjoy the live DJ, games, food and fun in Law Park and Pavilion in front of the library to kick off the summer, and sign up for summer reading. (Sign-up is ongoing at the library and online during the summer).
From the mayor and Board of Trustees: There will be a workshop on Wednesday at 7 p.m., with the option of a special meeting, if necessary. Otherwise, the July 1 board session has been consolidated to Wednesday, July 15, starting at 8 p.m.
With the wind-down of our spring sports, you are again asked to respect local parking rules. Final games/tournaments have caused adjacent neighborhoods to be inundated with cars; we ask that you respect driveways, curb cuts, fire hydrants, etc. We have alerted the Police Department to review the impacted areas. Tickets have been and will be issued.
We have been meeting with Con Ed regarding the “root canal work” we are all going through with the slo-mo completion of the gas main work. While some areas have been stabilized with temporary caps, we are pushing for an exact schedule for the at-grade repavement of these longtime disturbed areas. New Con Ed gas main work will not be permitted until we are comfortable that the old work is well on the way to completion.
Separately, Con Ed is seeking permits to replace over 200 aged telephone poles in the village. While different “divisions” of Con Ed are involved on all the various village work phases, we view Con Ed as one entity. We do not intend to permit them to proceed with this new work until the completion of outstanding work or notable results are reported.
“The Affair,” a new Showtime series has been filming in the village periodically. The requisite film permit has been issued, and we are monitoring the obvious issues of local inconveniencing that have occurred.
