BRIARCLIFF MANOR, N.Y. A select number of district chorus students were recognized Monday for being accepted into the American Choral Directors' Association, an honors choir for young people.
"We are honoring students who have achieved great things in the field of music," Neal Miller, schools superintendent, said at a Board of Education meeting.
From the elementary school, Sophia Scarsella, Emma Kuhn and Danielle Jacoby were selected for the ACDA Elementary Chorus. From the middle school, Jillian Agona, Madeline Albert, Kelly Hooper, Komal Keerthy, Benjamin Kupka, Sophia McGlew, Caroline Pennacchio, Melissa Goldberg and Allison Greenberg were selected for the ACDA Junior High Chorus.
From the high school, John Alecci was selected for the ACDA High School Latino Repertoire Chorus.
The Board of Education also recognized music teachers Wilma Messenger, John Banks and Anna Ostrofsky for their work with students.
The selected students will meet and perform at the ACDA Eastern Regional Conference in Providence, R.I. in February 2012.
In addition, three Briarcliff students were selected for the ACDA All-State Conference to be held in Rochester, N.Y., in December: John Alecci, Jamie Brandel and Hiroko Sunamura.
