BRIARCLIFF MANOR, N.Y. – Dozens of frustrated drivers left gas stations in Briarcliff Manor as quickly as they arrived Wednesday as several stations ran out of gas thanks to Hurricane Sandy.

Lines of cars stretched into the street from gas stations as drivers waited for a chance to fuel up their cars at the few stations that still had gas after the storm.

Steven Cebel, who has owned the Getty station on Pleasantville Road for 30 years, ran out of gas Thursday morning. He said fuel deliveries are scheduled for Friday but he does not expect any until Monday. Until then, he will have to continue to turn away drivers.

Cebel plans to keep the store open at his station so people can buy coffee, food and other supplies, but gas will be at a premium throughout the area as power remains off.

Marlene Sanchez-Jones, an Ossining resident who stopped by Cebel’s station Thursday, luckily had a full tank of gas. She also fortunately has not had to drive too far as she has not had work and her daughter has not had school.

She also has a generator at her home, along with a five-gallon tank of gas in case she runs out of fuel. As of Thursday, she was better off than most people in the area.

“I can hold out for another maybe couple of days,” Sanchez-Jones said.
