Briarcliff Fields Remediation Meeting Postponed

BRIARCLIFF MANOR, N.Y. – A meeting to present information on contamination and remediation of two athletic fields in the middle school/high school complex has been postponed until November.

Stuart Mattey, the assistant superintendent of business and technology for Briarcliff schools said at a Board of Education meeting on Monday night that he had not been able to find a toxicologist to interpret results of field testing and to make a presentation in October.

"If we have a meeting and a person asks the question, 'Is the field safe?' and we didn't have someone qualified to answer that question, that wouldn't be good," said Jennifer Rosen, a member of the Briarcliff Board of Education. "I'd rather hold off a few more weeks until we have a person that is qualified to handle that question."

Mattey said he would work on finding a qualified toxicologist for a November meeting where Board of Education members, environmental attorneys and environmental consultants would also be present.
