OSSINING, N.Y. – An estimated 3,126 out of 8,980 Con Edison customers are without power in the Village of Ossining Thursday morning as of 5 a.m., down from 4,810 Wednesday morning, according to outage maps.

In Briarcliff Manor 2,041 out of 2,964 customers are without power, down from 2,126 and 640 out of 2,307 customers in the Town of Ossining are out, down from 719 Wednesday morning.

Officials with Con Edison could not determine Thursday morning when customers could expect power restoration, but said it could take at least a week.

“Restoring service to customers affected by a storm as destructive as Sandy is arduous and, if not done properly, dangerous,” said Con Ed officials in a press release. “The storm knocked down more than 100,000 primary electrical wires in overhead areas. There are also thousands of secondary wires down.”

More than 165,000 customers out of 348,198 total customers served by Con Ed in Westchester are out of power as of 5 a.m. Thursday, down from more than 180,000 customers Wednesday morning.

Authorities are asking customers to report outages and downed wires to Con Edison and not through local emergency service lines. Customers can call 1-800-75-CONED (1-800-752-6633). When reporting an outage, customers are asked to have their Con Edison account numbers available and report whether their neighbors also have lost power. Customers who report outages will be called by Con Edison with their estimated restoration times as they become available, according to a press release.

We live on Riverview Farm Road in the Town of Ossining. A neighbor's tree knocked down power lines on the the cul-de-sac, and it severely comprised the Con Ed utility pole on our property and took down the power lines running through my driveway and attached to our house. Town of Ossining personnel made an appearance yesterday, removed parts of the fallen tree, made the cul-de-sac passable except for my home. It's an outrage. Not only are we without running water and heat, we are trapped in our home. Everyone else on the cul-de-sac can drive off their respective properties...this is our tax dollars at work. O'Connor was in his car with a Con Ed supervisor, I communicated the situation to no avail! What if a family member who hasn't heard from us in days drove into our driveway or anyone else for that matter during the evening hours given the down wires as essentially invisible at night - They'd potentially be killed. This is unacceptable and an outrage.
