OSSINING, N.Y. – Nearly 3,100 Briarcliff and Ossining customers remained without power Sunday morning as thousands of out-of-state crews moved into Westchester to pitch in with outage restoration.
An estimated 1,667 out of 2,964 customers in Briarcliff Manor, 784 out of 8,980 customers in the Village of Ossining and 631 out of 2,307 customers in the Town of Ossining were without power at 7 a.m. Sunday, according to Con Edison.
The utility reported approximately 88,060 of its 348,198 Westchester customers out of service as of Sunday morning.
Nearly 2,000 out-of-town crews are being deployed in New York City and Westchester County from various staging areas. An additional 400 crews were scheduled to arrive in Con Edison territory by Sunday. In Westchester, Mutual Aid Base Camps and staging areas have been established at Rye Playland in Rye and in FDR State Park in Yorktown Heights.
By Monday morning, Con Edison hopes to bring electricity to all schools and to all polling places for Tuesday. Those restorations are nearing 100 percent for accessible buildings, according to a release.
Electricity was restored to 700,000 customers, or approximately 70 percent of all those who lost power since the hurricane slammed through New York last Monday. Nearly 950,000 Con Edison customers were affected by the storm, securing Hurricane Sandy’s place in history as the worst natural disaster to strike Con Edison’s customers.
Customers can report downed power lines, outages, and check service restoration status by computer or mobile device at www.conEd.com. They also can call 1-800-75-CONED (1-800-752-6633). Customers who report outages will be called by Con Edison with their estimated restoration times as they become available, according to the release.
