WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- A jobs program for unemployed workers in Westchester County recently honored 26 graduates.

They are students in Jobs Waiting, a federally-funded regional job training program in the Hudson Valley.

Certificates of achievement were presented at a recent ceremony in White Plains, which Congresswoman Nita Lowey (D-Harrison) and major employers attended.

The unemployed students comprise the eighth class to complete the Jobs Waiting Program. .

To date, 119 participants have been hired or are in training, according to Lowey's office.

“To lead in an increasingly globalized economy, we must invest in a 21st-century workforce,” said Lowey. “Training individuals to fill high-skilled jobs right here in the Hudson Valley is exactly the type of smart, federal investment that our nation should be making."

Jobs Waiting was created to address the need for skilled workers to fill an estimated 2,500 unfilled jobs in the health care, technology and business sectors in the Lower Hudson Valley.  The program is led by Westchester County and managed by the WCA in partnership with the Westchester-Putnam Workforce Development board and the employment centers throughout seven Hudson Valley counties.
