Remember an extremely thoughtful and perfect gift you received at your last big event? If you are in Briarcliff Manor, there's a chance that whoever gave it to you had a secret shopper by the name of Donald Borho.
Borho is co-owner of Wondrous Things, a shop in Briarcliff Manor that specializes in finding the right gift for the right occasion. The stock ranges from high-end designer handbags, jewelry and clothing to gifts for the home and host and gourmet food gifts. We like to think of it as a lifestyle shop, Borho says.
The 47-year-old Briarcliff Manor native runs the front of the store, seeing to customers' needs. He knows most by first name. When a regular has an anniversary coming up, Borho knows about it. We actually have a lot of very loyal male customers who keep coming back because we know their wives and can help them find the perfect gift, Borho says.
If the gift wasn't right, Borho will take it back and help find something else. The items in his shop aren't cheap knockoffs and he says anyone who is going to spend the time, effort and expense to buy something nice deserves the best service the staff can offer.
Outside of the business, Borho is active in the newly incorporated Chamber of Commerce and various area charities. He holds the town close to his heart. He loves the small village feel and how each neighborhood seems to have its own character.
That connection to the community keeps him focused on his customers in many cases these are the people he grew up with. It makes me smile when I see the kids come by the store on their bicycles, because I used to be that kid, Borho says.
