The police department won the Most Innovative Use of Social Media/ Citizen Engagement award in New York State from Government Technology magazine for its Facebook page.
The department's Facebook has more than 7,500 "likes" and has been praised for being informative and occasionally having a sense of humor while letting the community know of the important goings on in the Village of Ossining.
Recently, to prevent burglaries from cars, the Facebook page launched the 9 p.m. routine. where they ask residents to remove valuables from their car, roll up their windows, lock their cars and turn off their outside lights. Since they launched the effort, the police have gone two days without a report of any car burglaries.
