Oil Company Owner Meets the Needs of Customers

You might not think an oil company owner and the president of a synagogue would have anything in common, but Dan Singer—who splits his time between both positions—will be the first to tell you the cardinal rule is the same.

He must always meet the needs of the people he works with. When he’s at Robison Oil , that means overseeing the company’s finances to keep his customers’ oil bills low.

“We secure the oil product and protect against violent swings in price,” he said. The delivery, operations, and technology managers are just a few of the employees that report directly to Singer.

And when he’s at Briarcliff Manor’s Congregation Sons of Israel, that means working with teachers and staff to efficiently run the synagogue and Hebrew school.

“In a challenging economic environment we reorganized our office staff and we have to fund raise,” he said.

Although his duties may vary, Singer is always careful to remain hands-on in whatever business he tends to. Before stepping in to work at Robison in 1996, Singer was a Senior Labor Relations Manager at PepsiCo, where he said he became less and less connected to the fruits of his labor.

He and his brother David Singer are now able to implement new ideas at Robison Oil and he is able to see first-hand how they are put into action.

“It gives me a lot of satisfaction to live in the same community as my customers, especially when you are doing a good job," added Singer.

Singer adds that the size of the company, which consists of roughly 200 employees, allows for changes but maintains the stability of a larger influence.

“We’re able to do new things and have an impact,” he said.

Singer lives in Briarcliff Manor with his wife Jill, daughter Zara and sons Jared and Harrison.
