Briarcliff's Maglietta YMCA Volunteer of the Year

BRIARCLIFF MANOR, N.Y. – The YMCA of Greater New York recently named Briarcliff Manor Board of Education member Sal Maglietta its 2012 Volunteer of the Year.

YMCA officials said the official recognition for Maglietta would be announced on March 28 at the organization’s general assembly at the Marriott Marquis in Manhattan. Officials said in a press release that Maglietta earned the award for doing more than “making personal financial contributions” or being a member on the YMCA’s board of directors.

“Sal has been instrumental in helping our organization raise millions of dollars each year through our annual Strong Kids Campaign,” said Ellen Murphy, senior director of public relations & communications for YMCA in an e-mail. “The campaign goes to help thousands of kids and families gain access to vital YMCA program and services.”

Officials also noted Maglietta’s dedication to spending time at leadership meetings and in different YMCA branches speaking with staff, according to the release.

Maglietta said he considered the award an honor.

“The YMCA is an organization I am proud to be associated with because it’s open to everyone, promotes positive values and proactively supports kids, families and communities through a variety of programs,” Maglietta said in the release.

Maglietta works as executive vice president of US Bank. Richard Payne, vice chair of US Bank Wholesale Banking, said in the release that Maglietta’s work was an example of the company’s dedication to giving back.

Gary Laermer, chief development officer of YMCA of Greater New York, praised Maglietta’s energy.

“Sal’s positive energy is contagious,” said Gary Laermer, chief development officer of the YMCA of Greater New York. “Under his leadership, Sal has rallied vital support for the Strong Kids Campaign. We are proud to present him with the 2012 Volunteer of the Year award.”
