Briarcliff Residents Get Outside as Temps Rise

BRIARCLIFF MANOR, N.Y. – Briarcliff Middle School eighth-grader Daniel Birnbaum said he wasn’t just getting outside on the tennis courts Monday for fun.

“I’m not on the team, not yet,” the 14-year-old said while practicing his tennis skills at Law Memorial Park in Briarcliff Manor. “It’s really nice. I would’ve preferred some snow in Vermont but not here.”

With temperatures soaring almost into the 70s, Daniel and hundreds of other residents got outside Monday to enjoy the weather. The spring-like weather was a welcome sight for many and also coincided with the release of Briarcliff Manor’s 2012 Spring & Sumer Season Recreation Brochure, now available on the village’s website. Registration for some programs begin as early as March 19.

Cortland Manor resident Crystal Fontana, who took time to play tennis at Law Memorial Park as well, said Monday she saw the temperature gauge in her car read 70 degrees for the first time this year.

“It’s wonderful and I’m very happy to have it,” she said. “You have to take advantage of a day like today. I’m going to have to get outside as much as I can and maybe even get out on the bike trail.”
