BRIARCLIFF MANOR, N.Y. – Nikki Metzger of Briarcliff Manor has been named as an honoree for State Sen. Greg Ball's Women of Distinction award, along with 22 others in the New York State Senate’s 40th District.

Metzger was nominated for the Women of Distinction award for her commitment and strong passion for community service and leadership activities, according to Ball’s website.  She has raised more than $43,000 over the past seven years for three organizations that help people with rare illnesses.

“The Women of Distinction Ceremony was a project I launched in recognition of Women’s History Month and inspired by the accomplished and outstanding women I have had the privilege of collaborating with through my current tenure serving the people of the 40th Senate District,” Ball said in a statement.

In March, Ball (R,C,I - Patterson) asked residents of his district – which includes parts of Westchester, Dutchess and Putnam counties – to submit nominations.

“While all those nominated have worked and volunteered without want of recognition, their efforts have not gone without notice or appreciation. The diversity and depth of their work speaks to the amount of time and dedication each has volunteered on behalf of and in support of a simple truth; that all change is local,” Ball’s statement said. “Each took it upon herself to respond to some compelling community need. These women did not wait or idle when the opportunity for real change presented itself. Instead, each used her own unique talents and skills to respond to an issue or challenge in her community that merited action.”

The Women Of Distinction Hall of Fame will be held Sept. 8 at 2 p.m. at the Putnam County Emergency Services Building in Carmel. The honorees will also be included on a Traveling Wall of Fame that will be on display throughout the district.
