Briarcliff to Honor Memorial Day With Parade, 5K

BRIARCLIFF MANOR, N.Y. – Hundreds of Westchester residents are expected to run, walk and march in Briarcliff Manor on Memorial Day.

Briarcliff American Legion Post 1054 will lead the annual parade at noon Monday through downtown. Dozens of local groups also marching in the parade include the Briarcliff Manor Fire Department, Girl and Boy Scout troops, Little League baseball teams and other school and village officials and organizations. The parade steps off at noon down Pleasantville Road, then down Larch Road, Oak Road and Ash Road before returning to Law Memorial Park for a ceremony.

Larry Reilly, who served in the Army during Vietnam, said this year’s parade will be special for him for a couple of reasons.

“This will mark my 20th parade as the commander of the American Legion Post 1054,” Reilly said. “But my father was also a World War II veteran who passed away, so the parade has a lot of significance for me.”

Reilly said he is always amazed and honored by the hundreds of supporters who come out to cheer the local veterans each year.

“We love the cheers, and the people who come out to the parade are always great,” he said. “It kind of gives you chills to hear that roar of the crowd as you march past. It’s a pretty special feeling.”

The Friends of the Briarcliff Manor Public Library are also set to host a 5K Run/2 Mile Walk at 8:30 a.m. Monday at the Law Park Pavilion. More than 150 people from all over Westchester have already registered for the fifth annual Memorial Day Run/Walk to support the library.

Online registration has closed, but residents are invited to register Monday morning. Registration on event day is $30 for residents 13 and up, and $20 for 12 and under. For more information, visit the Friends of the Briarcliff Manor Public Library website.
