BRIARCLIFF MANOR, N.Y. For some, flowers are something you get on Mothers Day or when youre sick. But for the members of the Briarcliff Manor Garden Club , flowers are an opportunity to make someones day better any day of the year.
The Atria of Briarcliff Manor hosted the Briarcliff Manor Garden Clubs annual flower show Friday afternoon to the delight of dozens of local residents who stopped in. More than a dozen members of the club competed in different categories for awards from club officials while Atria residents and members of the community stopped by to see the latest displays. With a wide variety of flowers and arrangements, the only title fitting of the show was Hold Everything, said Terry Marchica, the clubs president.
We do it once a year at Atria and we love doing it because its such a special occasion for them, Marchica said. We do it all to educate the public on flowers and flower arranging, Marchica said.
Atria Executive Director Janis Knorr said the event offers a rare treat for residents.
We are delighted to have them display their beautiful work here. Its artistic and the arrangements are amazing, Knorr said. Our residents enjoy it, and we love having them here because it brings smiles to a lot of faces.
Member Britt Vecchiotti said she was particularly impressed with this years show.
Its great because they put in so much effort into this, Vecchiotti said. The garden club has been special to my family for years. My mother-in-law was an active member of the garden club and the first thing she told me was to join the club to get to know somebody because they are really great and they make beautiful arrangements.
